A Weekend at Fall Creek Falls

Last weekend, Michelle and I packed up the truck, loaded up our Mini Aussie, Annie Oakley, and hit the road to Fall Creek Falls. It was one of those trips where you just know good memories are waiting to be made.

We rented a cabin right on the lake, complete with a dock that stretched out over the water—perfect for casting a line and just soaking in the quiet.

Annie Oakley took to the place right away, sniffing around and checking out the ducks that wandered near the shoreline. She’s got this way of making any place feel like home, tail wagging and ears perked up like she’s ready for adventure.

Our daughter and her family drove up later that day. Nothing beats seeing those three grandkids pile out of the car, full of energy and excitement. They couldn’t wait to explore, and neither could I. We spent the evening down by the dock, fishing while the kids took turns helping bait the hooks. Michelle sat on the cabin’s porch, laughing at the way the youngest kept squealing every time a fish tugged on the line.

The next morning, we all laced up our hiking boots and hit one of the trails. There’s something about walking through those woods, leaves crunching underfoot, that just clears your mind. The grandkids ran ahead, pointing out birds and throwing rocks into the creek. Annie kept pace like a trooper, happy to be in the thick of it all. By the time we looped back around, everyone was ready for some lunch and a bit of rest.

One of the best parts of the weekend was meeting up with more family at the Fall Creek Falls campground. There’s just something about grilling steaks over an open fire with good company. We sat around, telling stories, while the smell of searing meat filled the air. The kids toasted marshmallows, and Annie sprawled out by my feet, tuckered out from all the excitement.

That night, back at the cabin, I sat out on the dock with a line in the water, just taking it all in. Sometimes, life’s best moments are the simplest ones—family close by, a good dog at your side, and the sound of water lapping against the shore. It was a weekend to remember, and I know we’ll be talking about it for a long time.
